The Burroughs Community Center
The mission of The Burroughs Community Center is to provide Bridgeport residents with program opportunities and facility resources that promote individual growth and community cohesiveness. This mission is fulfilled through direct services and by collaboration with community and facility partners. For 13 years, The Burroughs Community Center has provided Bridgeport residents with the educational, recreational, social, and economical tools to lead successful lives.
Youth Services such as:
· After School Programs
· Tutoring
· Summer Camp Programs
· Sparks Summer Travel Program for Middle School Students
Adult Services such as:
· Income Tax Assistance
· A Community Garden
· Quick Start Language Center
The Center is also home to nine other non-profit agencies and programs that provide direct and vital services for families, infants, children, teens, adults, and seniors such as:
· Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwestern CT
· Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition
· Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance
· Regional Youth/Adult Substance Abuse Project (RYSAP)
· Bridgeport American Youth Soccer Organization (BAYSO)
· Black Rock Community Council
· Public Allies Connecticut
· Safe Neighborhood Americorp (SNAP)
· The Witness Project
In addition, 65 local non-profit organizations and agencies use the Center to hold meetings and implement programs; bringing over 42,000 community members through the front door annually.
In these difficult economic times, organizations such as The Burroughs Community Center that provide a variety of services under one roof, are extremely important to the residents of Bridgeport and the surrounding communities to help them improve their quality of life.
